Legislative Priorities

The WSPHA legislative agenda outlines funding and policy priorities that align with the mission  of WSPHA.   WSPHA is monitoring a number of proposals currently before the legislature including:

  • SB 5542/HB 1683: This bill would weaken Washington’s Clean Indoor Air law by allowing smoking in certain bars/restaurants and tobacco shops, putting employees and customers at risk.
  • SB 6166: This bill would impose a $1 tax increase on cigarettes and raise over $40 million in revenue.  Of the revenue, $1.7 million would support the state quit line to help people stop smoking and the remainder would go towards the $2 billion deficit.
  • SB 6120/HB 2266: Toxic Free Kids Act would protect children from exposure to toxic flame retardants and encourage manufacturers to use safer chemicals in their products.
  • SB 5234/HB 1370: Secure Medicine Take Back Bill would require drug producers to fund and establish a safe program for return and disposal of certain leftover and expired medications.
