Health Care Reform
Passes!
Thanks to all of you who
advocated over the past year for a stronger health care system,
including rededicated focus on prevention and public health
approaches. To
learn more about implementation here in Washington, listen to WSPHA's May 21, 2010 webinar with the experts on
health care reform and public health. (To be posted to our website
soon.)
See the National Association of County and City Health
Officials' analysis on how health care reform positively affects
public health at the local level, and in terms of public health training
and professional development to build a stronger workforce. We will
monitor implementation of the legislation and bring you periodic updates
of note.
If your Representative voted in
favor of the bill,
please call 1-866-922-4970 and thank him/her for voting yes.

Governor Gregoire has created a
special Health Care
Reform Cabinet, via Executive Order. Stay tuned as we bring you more
information about how you can track progress of the Cabinet's actions
and how public health is involved. You can also track progress on
legislative discussions regarding health care reform implementation by
visiting the Legislature's Joint Task Force on Health Reform webpage.
The Washington State Public Health Association has consistently supported a public option and prevention funding in health care reform, consistent with the American Public Health Association's positions. Other partners, such as the National Association of City and County Health Officials, also strongly support public health and prevention investments in healthcare reform to ensure that reform is about population-level, as well as individual, health.
