The 2008
Joint Conference Theme

First of all we want to say "Thank You!" to all of our 2007 Joint Conference on Health sponsors for helping to make last year's conference such a wonderful success. Those who sponsor the Joint Conference on Health each year understand the importance of bringing this conference to the public health profession. The Washington State Public Health Association's Joint Conference on Health is the largest and most dynamic public health conference in Washington state covering nearly every aspect of public health. The diversity brought to this conference opens doors to many professionals looking to gain knowledge and continuing educational credits to their job and their career. The Joint Conference on Health was established in 1994 when three separate events decided to meet together as a “Joint” Conference for 2 ˝ days and combine their program offerings. The two groups from the Washington State Department of Health included the Infectious Disease Conference (later expanded to include non-infectious conditions); the Data Users Conference; and the Washington State Public Health Association Annual Meeting. This year we have partnered with the Washington State Environmental Health Association for the October 2007 conference and the planning for this conference has been nothing short of phenomenal! The opportunities and ideas are endless - we almost wish we could have an all week conference! This will no doubt be one of the best conferences we've ever done. Over
the years the Joint Conference has show cased some of the best
speakers. Speakers such as David Suzuki in 2000; Laurie Garrett and
Victor DeNoble in 2001, George Strait in 2002; Richard Jackson and Bill
Foege in 2003; H. Jack Geiger and Andrew Schneider in 2004; Andrew
Dannenberg in 2005; and Matthew Myers, Dave Fleming, Richard Besser, Peter Sandman in
2006, and Howard Frumkin in 2007. Along with speakers, the committee works to organize special events such as food shows, poster sessions, field trips, fundraising events and promotes physical activities such as running and walking events each morning. A
great deal of work goes into organizing a conference the boasts nearly 600
people each year, and each year the committee continues to look for ways
to raise funds to sponsor many of the events and speakers brought in
because registration fees do not cover everything. That is where our
sponsors come in - they understand the need to support this great
conference and we appreciate all that they do. Thank you for your
support - thank you for making public health a priority in Washington
state. We hope you will continue your support in 2007. |
