Board Development Committee

Committee Description:

  • The Board Development Committee works to recruit new Board members and assists the Board in ensuring good governance through training, Board development and strategic oversight.  Key initiatives in 2010-2012 are to solidify Board representation by identified needed skill-sets to oversee the organization’s new strategic plan directions in advocacy, membership development and professional development.

Professional Development Committee
Chair:  Lyndia Tye, ltye@spokanecounty.org

Committee Description:

  • This committee develops and oversees WSPHA’s Professional Development program work, including interfacing with the Joint Conference on Health Planning Committee to ensure that specific WSPHA professional development strategic objectives are met. Key initiatives in 2010-2012  include developing and implementing a leadership initiative to address workforce succession issues, developing a mentoring program for public health professionals, identifying and promoting key professional development and training opportunities, particularly in light of public health standards and accreditation discussions, and ensuring a robust and relevant Joint Conference on Health for our state’s public health professionals.

Membership Committee
Chair:  Beth Lipton, DVM, MPH. liptob@health.co.kitsap.wa.us

Committee Description:

  • The Membership Committee aims to grow WSPHA’s membership base to be more reflective of the over 10,000 public health professionals and public supporters of public health in Washington.  Key initiatives are to promote WSPHA through a new organizational membership category (which provides discounts to individual members from that organization), to promote new individual memberships, and to retain current members by promoting member benefits and opportunities.

Public Policy/Advocacy Committee
Co-Chairs:  Jennifer Muhm, jmuhm@wspha.org and Anne Piazza, apiazza@wsna.org

  • (In process of being revised — this Committee will focus on development of an annual legislative agenda for WSPHA, vetting policy resolutions submitted by membership, coordination with the Public Health Roundtable, and specific policy objectives.

Joint Conference on Health
Co Chairs: Lyndia Tye, LTye@spokanecounty.org; Jessica Guidry

  • The Joint Conference on Health is supported by multiple committees, and is a joint effort between WSPHA and its partners.  In 2011, the Program Planning Committee has been filled by members with expertise and the ability to support recruitment of plenary speakers, development of panel discussions, and final selection of abstracts.  Other Sub-Committees accepting volunteers include the following:
  • Education Sub-Committee supports student and academic participation in the Joint Conference, and facilitates the CHES and other CEU credits processes.
  • Logistics Sub-Committee handles registration and on-site logistics.
  • Marketing Sub-Committee works to market attendance, sponsorship and exhibitors at the conference.
