Advocacy: WSPHA’s aggressive outreach strategy to promote the needs of the public health profession brings a unified message to the Legislature and Congress around funding and other critical public health issues. During the legislative session, WSPHA and its partners advocate for policies that align with our mission of improving health for all Washington residents. WSPHA also hosts Public Health Education Day in Olympia, an event that provides important training on legislative and budget processes and gives public health professionals the opportunity to meet with legislators to discuss critical public health issues.
Promoting Public Health: For over 75 years, WSPHA has provided a venue for public health professionals to come together around common issues, promoted effective public policy, and trained and furthered the professional development of public health workers in government, academic, and nonprofit agencies. WSPHA also recognizes public health workers through its awards program, and develops products and materials of benefit to public health workers and hosts the premiere statewide public health conference each year, the Joint Conference on Health.
