Reasons to Join
Advocacy: In 2011, we hosted a Public Health Education Day in Olympia that included over 100 meetings between public health professionals and legislators to discuss critical public health issues. During the legislative session, we worked to preserve public health funding for local health departments, statewide programs such as tobacco prevention, maternity support services, and successfully advocated for a bill requiring health care provider signature on immunization exemption forms to ensure parents receive information about the risks and benefits of childhood vaccines.
Promoting Public Health: For over 75 years, the Association has provided a venue for public health professionals to come together around common issues, promoted effective public policy, and trained and furthered the professional development of public health workers in government, academic, and nonprofit agencies. WSPHA also recognizes public health workers through its awards program, and develops products and materials of benefit to public health workers and hosts the premiere statewide public health conference each year, the Joint Conference on Health.
Discounts: Joining WSPHA offers a variety of benefits to members, including discounts for training and professional development, a lower rate for the Joint Conference on Health registration, and your membership dues help to support the Association’s advocacy and other program work.
Ten thousand public health professionals in Washington State pack a powerful punch when their voices are heard. WSPHA’s aggressive outreach strategy to promote the needs of the public health profession brings a unified message to the Legislature and Congress around funding and other critical public health issues. Your support for WSPHA helps to keep the organization strong as a voice for public health in Washington.
