Key initiatives for 2012-2014 include developing and implementing a leadership initiative to meet workforce competency needs; developing an expert resource pool for public health professionals to contact; identifying and promoting professional development and training opportunities, particularly in light of public health standards and accreditation initiatives; and ensuring a robust and relevant Joint Conference on Health for our state’s broad public health community.
Joint Conference on Health
This annual 2 day event provides training and networking opportunities for all public health professionals, defined as anyone who works to improve the public’s health.

Webinars
WSPHA hosts monthly educational sessions on cross-cutting topics, selected to meet the broad interest of the public health community. Archived webinars are available to members only. Webinars are hosted using GoToWebinar (citrix online).
Washington State Journal of Public Health Practice
Washington State Journal of Public Health Practice is a scholarly peer-reviewed, online publication focused on public health, health education and promotion practice, teaching, research, and issues of interest to professionals in Washington and the Pacific Northwest. The vision of the journal is to serve as a bridge of communication among health scientists and professionals in practice, educational, and policy settings.
Leadership Skills Training
With our partners, ongoing trainings occur to build the skills of our current workforce and those just entering the field. Leadership competencies have been adopted from multiple sources. WSPHA also hosts Public Health Education Day in Olympia each year to provide training on how to effectively communicate with legislators and information on public health priorities in Olympia.
